Collapse ▲Frost Advisory Mar 18-21 2024
in collaboration with AWIS Weather Services
Dear all,
The entire region will experience a cold snap starting tonight (Mar 17) and moving it’s way Southeastward until the night of Monday to Tuesday (Mar 18-19).
Mar 17 – 18: Frost conditions can be expected in Western NC, Western and North VA, and the mid-Atlantic (see Bob Rouse’s email earlier today).
Mar 18 – 19: Frost conditions can be expected in almost all regions (GA, SC, NC, VA and the mid-Atlantic)
Mar 19 – 20: Frost conditions in almost all GA, Western/Northern SC, Western and Central NC, VA and mid-Atlantic.
Mar 20 – 21: Frost conditions in Western NC, Western VA and mid-Atlantic
Frost conditions will most likely continue in mid-Atlantic and regions in Western NC and VA. This is especially important for growers of early season cultivars (e.g. ‘Sweet Charlie’), as they most likely will need protection.
In North Carolina, we are entering strawberry picking season at the Southeastern Shore any time now. Blossoms are set through Central NC and the Piedmont, with Western NC slowly waking up.
If your plants at that stage, the coming days will warrant frost protection most likely in almost all areas.
Row-cover use or overhead sprinkler use is recommended. Please remember to check you disease pressure, especially after elongated row-cover use. Botrytis and Mites can flare up easily if row covers are used for several days in a row under the upcoming conditions.
Please find your regional weather forecast in below tables. Be safe.
