NCDA & CS Agronomic Services Hours:
The Plant/Waste/Solutions and Media (PWSM) Lab will be operating this week from Tuesday through Friday and will accept all samples except routine liquid manures. As part of our planned ramp down in staff in-house hours, lab operational hours will be reduced to Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday beginning next week. Barring unforeseen circumstances, this will be the PWSM schedule moving forward. Samples can still be delivered/submitted on Mondays and Thursdays.
Plant tissue samples submitted on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays should be completed in one business day and plant tissue samples submitted Wednesdays and Fridays should be completed in two business days. This is the only delay in services that we anticipate at this time.

In total, approx. $49 billion will be used as stimuli of the agriculture sector (or 0.0245% of the total $2 trillion stimulus package). $9.5 billion (or 19% of all agriculture-related funding) will be received by the USDA to directly aid farmers and ranchers. Approx. 50% of the funding assists food and nutrition programs. 2% ($916 million) will be used to replenish staff positions in key mission areas. Other Financial Aid
- NC Rapid Recovery Loan Program launched for small businesses with a funding source of $15 million. Managed by the NC Rural Center, loans can be given to eligible businesses for up to $50,000 with zero interest and no payments for up to six months. See the news release for more information.
- RAFI-USA has announced to help NC farmers by issuing mini-grants for affected businesses. Please sign up to receive updates via email directly from RAFI.

Agricultural work is considered essential work. The state issued a stay-at-home is in effect since 5 p.m., 3/30/2020. Under this order, farmers and agricultural employees are still allowed to leave their homes to attend work. They will need printed documentation declaring their status, and it is recommended that they keep this documentation in their car or on their person. This document, created by the NCDA&CS, is provided through a Google Doc on our site and on the NCDA&CS COVID-19 website. Please also see the update posted on the NCSU Extension website explaining how the NCDA&CS plans to assist farmers and agribusinesses in the event of a stay-at-home order. Daily NC and Global COVID-19 Update
As of 3/30/2020, 1:48 p.m.: a total of 20,864 people in NC were tested for the virus. 1,307 people in NC were tested positive, 6 people have died in NC due to COVID-19.
As of 3/30/2020, 8:08 p.m.: 784,314 people worldwide are known to be infected with the virus. 37,638 people worldwide have died due to COVID-19.
