Dear all,
This week will bring frost nights with air temperatures in the mid-low 30s for inner coastal North Carolina and further West (Triangle/Triad/Sandhills/Piedmont/Foothills/Mountains).
Strawberry: Dew points predicted have the potential to harm open blossoms for strawberries. The use of sprinklers or floating row covers in the night from April 8-9 is recommended for most areas of NC with the exception of the coast.
Grape: Especially in Western NC, parts of the Yadkin Valley and the Foothills, predicted air temperatures have the potential to harm tender shoots and even swollen buds. This is an inversion weather situation, the use of wind machines might bring relief, as well as fire pots and/or sprinklers. However, none of those methods are foolproof, and damage can occur regardless of the protection method used.
