Friends,
I think most growers recognize that because strawberry respiration increases by a FACTORIAL for each 10F above 32F, growers need to remove field heat ASAP and then keep them cool. The other “GOOD NEWS” about that thermodynamic relationship is that a strawberry will absorb very LITTLE water at 30F,(overhead protection) vs a LOT of water if we try to evaporatively cool bloom with fruit present at 80F+. The attached picture clearly shows how LITTLE DAMAGE actually occurs when fields are maintained properly and then frost protected for 4 hours early in the morning.
